Tasmania, poured properly.

A tucked-away bar on Brisbane Street, pouring Tasmanian gin, whisky, wine and craft beer.

Looking down the long, narrow bar from the back of the room towards the Brisbane Street windows, shelves of bottles glowing amber along the wall.

Over sixty Tasmanian gins on the back bar.

Plus a wall of local whisky, Tasmanian wine and whatever’s on the beer taps this week. Small batch means the shelves keep moving, so ask what’s new.

A single orange coupe on the dark timber bar, a curl of peel on the rim and the bottle shelves blurred behind.

From the bar

Five signatures, the classics done our way, and gin and whisky paddles poured in order.

The room

Long, narrow and lit low, with a wall of bottles running the length of it.

  • A full house on a weeknight, string lights strung down the ceiling and the brick wall lit warm.
  • Two bartenders pouring side by side, two coupes waiting on the bar.
  • Pendant lamps hanging over the bar, a whisky barrel sitting on the back counter.
  • A bartender shaking a drink, lemon wedges and a coupe lined up on the bar.
  • A corner shelf of bottles lit from below in pink, the wall above washed amber.
  • An old fashioned in a cut-glass tumbler, catching the light on the timber bar.
  • A bartender working beside the barrel, the bar crowded with bottles and glasses.
  • A tulip glass of something golden and a pint on the bar, a guest leaning in behind.
  • An orange coupe with a twist of peel, a bowl of oranges and bar spoons beside it.

What’s on

Tasting nights with the people who make it, mostly through winter.

Michael Bernhagen grinning as he shakes a cocktail in front of the back bar's bottle shelves.

The owner

Meet Michael

Michael Bernhagen is a gin lover who wanted a place to show off the best of Launceston and Tasmania. He’s always on the lookout for the next local distillery worth pouring.

“I believe in our state, our producers and our product.”
